United Nations Hiring An Intern – Economic Affairs 2024. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Under the general guidance of professional staff of the Energy Division, the intern will undertake information collection, research and analysis in one or more of the following areas:

1. Good practices in mobilizing and rationalizing energy financing, prices, taxation and subsidies, as well as increasing energy affordability, promoting energy trade and energy connectivity, through policies, energy economics and innovative technologies etc.

2. Research to develop project proposals and to facilitate implementation of the Regional Road Map on “Regional Road Map on Power System Connectivity: Promoting Cross-Border Electricity Connectivity for Sustainable Development in particular power grid connectivity”;

Duties and Responsibilities

The Internship with the Energy Division is for a period of three to six months depending on the needs of the Division. The Energy Division is working to support member States in enhancing energy security, energy transition and addressing climate change through regional cooperation to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in particular the Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7): Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
